How to get started:

  1. If you haven't already: SIGN UP for an ACCOUNT on this website. (Be sure to look at the available "Sound Groups" and subscribe to the ones that interest you)
  2. Get Skype and
learn how to contact other participant Skype users for free.
    (Watch this video it may
help to download) You can learn how to add a contact and then
give that new contact a call by looking at this
    video
    .
  3. Once you have a Skype account update your profile on the Virtual Sound Exchange so that other members of the community can add you to their contact list on Skype. This will enable you to connect with audio online and arrange for online collaborations.
  4. Respond to your invite to join the "Virtual Sound Exchange" basecamp at http://virtualresidency.updatelog.com and
use the messaging section to connect with collaborators. There
is an initial password of "deeplistening"
  5. Organize a time to meet online and try playing
some music together with other participants over Skype. If there
are three or more of you use the conference call feature of skype
to interconnect. If possible play with headphones or with your
speakers away from the mic you are using for skype to avoid feedback
    caused by internet delay times.
  6. Once you are comfortable with connecting and
trying some music online you should get an account Evoca and use that site to capture your various Skype calls and other sounds using the "Evoca Recorder".
  7. Some may want to get the open source Audacity software
to edit this content for continuity and remove unwanted sections
  8. From you imeem account at username.imeem.com
(where username is the username you chose when you signed up)
make sure you have joined the "Group" on imeem called Virtual Sound Exchange
  9. Upload the mp3 of your Evoca recording of a given Skype rehearsal to the "upload
Music" section of that Virtual Sound Exchange meem
    .
  10. Comment and interact using the Blog and comment
fields in imeem as well as the message forum on the Basecamp Site
