The Virtual Sound Exchange helpline provides up-to-date information to New York State musicians on how to establish telematic music connections with musicians throughout the world. Telematic music allows musicians to play live and simultaneously across geographic distance via the internet. Expert advice is available on freeware and shareware applications that can be used for telematic music. A database of musicians is also facilitated through this site for musicians seeking to join telematic ensembles.
The Virtual Sound Exchange helpline project has grown out of the research for and implementation of the Deep Listening Convergence 2007. Deep Listening Institute, Ltd. with technical direction by Scot Gresham-Lancaster
established a helpline and suite of applications to support forty-five
musicians from Europe Canada, and across the USA in a successful
virtual online six-month residency culminating in four in-person concerts in upstate New York June 8-11, 2007.
Virtual Sound Exchange will continue to update and add new applications as they become available. Participation is welcome and will be logged in a data base.
